A recent USAID-STRIDE seminar on Case Teaching prompted the conduct of the recent Case Teaching Workshop in the university on June 16, 2017 at the University Training Center. It highlighted the use of case as an instructional material in teaching in different specializations for exploratory and student-centered learning process. Dr. Aris Reynold V. Cajigal served as proponent and overall coordinator of this one-day workshop.  It was attended by faculty of the various colleges of the University.

“Cases are types of narratives which can potentially clarify the professional knowledge of teachers and effects that prompts conversation and reflection on issues that invite a variety of interpretations”, said Dr. Cajigal. As such, using cases in teaching acknowledges varying perspectives creating a multitude of perspectives in search for the ‘better’ answers.

The workshop was an echo with Dr. Eric Parilla of the University of Asia and the Pacific and Professor Marc Cruz of the University of the Philippines – Los Banos, fellow participants of Dr. Cajigal in the USAID STRIDE seminar. Dr. Cajigal introduced cases and case methods as an instructional tool in the academe. Prof. Eric discussed the intricacies, challenges, and peculiarities of case teaching and demonstrated its use through a session with the participants. Prof. Mar of UPLB discussed online resources of cases.

“The seminar gave me insights on how I can teach business courses once I enter the academe”, said Jerico Padamada of the College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy. (Khimbee Miguel)
