Extension pushes ISO Stage 1 Audit

Written by Administrator on 31 October 2018

In pursuit of excellence in its extension services and programs, the Extension Directorate was subjected to Stage 1 Audit this October 30, 2018.

Mr. Gerald Cayetano of the AJA Registrars audited the Top Management to include President Shirley C. Agrupis, VP for Research, Extension, and Business, Dr. Epifania O. Agustin, VP for Planning and Finance, Engr. Amyruth R. Cocson, and Dr. Aris Reynold V. Cajigal, head of the Extension Directorate.  The five sections of the Directorate including the section chiefs as process owners were also interviewed the Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation (PME) Section with Dr. Sherlyn B. Nicolas, the Training and Continuing Education (TCE) Section headed by Ms. Bella C. Gervacio, the Applied Communication (ApCo) Section headed by Ms. Mercy R. Gaño, the Technology Demonstration, Piloting, and Commercialization (TDPC) Section headed by Dr. Sosima R. Demandante, and the Training Facility, Services, and Maintenance (TFSM) Section headed by Mr. Nestor Alonzo.

Despite the Storm Signal No. 2 raised in the province of Ilocos Norte and the suspension of work in the University, the Office pushed for the activity in preparation for the ISO Certification Stage 2 tentative this coming November 2018.

With programs and activities of the University in fulfilling its extension function, President Agrupis encouraged everyone in the hall to “work together and continue to uphold High Impact Extension and Outreach programs in the seven-point goals of the University.

The Extension Directorate was chosen to be subjected to ISO Certification because of its in-place Quality Management System. A Quality Policy approved last October 2017 is also constantly disseminated during trainings, seminars, field days, and other extension activities.

An opening meeting packed the preliminaries of the day with site visits in the demonstration areas of the Office such as the Minuyungan Project that showcases viable technologies and the Rice Paddy Art near the University Twin Gates as a showcase of breakthroughs to entice the youth into agriculture. Series of interview was conducted with the officials of the University and the chiefs of the different sections. Towards the end, a small group conference on the result of the audit completed the day. In the end, as Dr. Cajigal said, the experience should never be a nerve-wrecking experience but a learning one, such that these are all opportunities for improvement.

As the Extension office considers the result of the audit to improve its operations, the staff collectively works to better the programs and projects of the directorate.

With high hopes and prayers, soon, the Extension Directorate will be ISO 9001:2015 Certified.
