The Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center 1 (ATI-RTC 1) recognized MMSU and the MMSU-based Ilocos Agriculture, Aquatic Resources Research and Development Consortium (ILAARRDEC) for their contributions to agri-fishery development in the region during the Agriculture and Fisheries Extension Stakeholder’s Forum and Techno Gabay Program (TGP) Summit, held on October 10-11 in Lingayen, Pangasinan.

As a founding member of the ILAARRDEC, MMSU received a plaque of appreciation for its significant role in advancing agriculture and fisheries through research, technology, and extension services, which directly benefit farmers and fisherfolk. MMSU was also awarded as a Partner-Member Agency in the implementation of TGP.

Representing MMSU OIC President Dr. Prima Fe R. Franco, Vice President for Planning and Strategic Foresight Dr. Virgilio Julius Manzano emphasized the university’s commitment to bolstering the agri-fishery sector amidst challenges such as climate change, market shifts, and limited resources.

“MMSU and ILAARRDEC stand firmly behind our farmers and fisherfolk,” Dr. Manzano stated. “Through research, technology, and extension services, we are ensuring that our innovations in agriculture and fisheries reach the people who need them most. The university ensures cutting-edge science that benefits the grassroots, supporting the Sustainable Development Goals.”

The summit, organized by ATI-RTC 1, brought together extension workers from state universities and colleges, national government agencies, local government units, private institutions, and rural-based organizations. It served as a platform to share agricultural and fishery technologies and highlight best practices in extension services. The event also featured a competition among Farmers’ Information and Technology Services (FITS) centers, showcasing innovative strategies in agri-fisheries.

MMSU’s collaboration with ATI-RTC 1 started in January 2023, when they partnered to provide research-based information and technical assistance in Ilocos Norte. Since coordinating with ATI in 2012, ATI-RTC 1 has revitalized key programs such as Magsasaka Siyentista and FITS, enhancing the livelihoods of farmers and fisherfolk through accessible knowledge and resources.

The summit underscored MMSU’s ongoing dedication to expanding linkages and partnerships among stakeholders and driving inclusive, sustained development in the agri-fishery sector.
