Region 1 booth bags major, special awards in national fair

Emboldening the Ilokano ingenuity in the national spotlight.
With research-based technologies and local resources-inspired innovations, the Region 1 SUC Booth was adjudged third Best Booth/Bazaar of the recently concluded National State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) Fair 2022 held at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.
This is a major award given to booths with the best creativity, artistic rendition, physical set-up/organization, and overall appeal. The Region 1 booth, garnering a Php 10,000.00 cash award and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), is one the best booths among the 20 booths showcasing the 113 SUCs in the country.
Under the headship of the Mariano Marcos State University, the Region 1 booth showcased innovative food products, crafts and novelty items from local resources in the Region such as, cocoon and silk, bamboo products, paintings, and ceramic products with the five other SUCs in the Region: the University of Northern Philippines (UNP), Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC), North Luzon Philippines State College (NLPSC) in Ilocos Sur, the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) in La Union, and the Pangasinan State University (PSU) in Pangasinan.
Additionally, Region 1 also bagged the Best Agri-Food Product, earning Php 5,000 cash award and another Certificate of Appreciation. This is one of the three special awards of the competition, alongside Best Scientific Product and Best Educational Product.
With focus on the theme, “Promoting Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Culture & Arts for National Development and Global Competitiveness”, this year’s exhibit and trade fair highlight the role of SUCs for transformative development through excellent innovation culture and nation building embedded in SUC: Sustained Excellence, Unified Efforts, and Competitive Standards.
Aside from the competitions, the four-day SUC Fair was also packed with plenary talks, innovation exhibits and demonstrations, product bazaar, reginal cultural shows, other SUC competitions such as photo competition and jingle songwriting. The Cultural Fashion Show was also actively participated by MMSU President, Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, UNP President, Dr. Erwin F. Cadorna, and DMMMSU President, Dr. Jaime R. Manuel, Jr.
The SUC Fair 2022 was conducted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) from June 28 to July 1, 2022.
