Fifty extension coordinators and project team leaders from the different colleges of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) completed the two-day training on Planning and Implementation of Development Extension and Community Engagement Programs from July 18 to 19 at the MMSU Hostel.

The activity was initiated by the Extension Directorate in Partnership with the Planning Directorate of the University.

Dr. Marlowe Aquino, director for Planning, capacitated the training participants in understanding the new dimension of development extension and community engagement; instituting collegial development extension projects of operating units; understanding the self and community as spectrums in development extension; community diagnosis and analysis; planning of development extension projects; formative and summative evaluation impact assessment; implementation of development extension and community engagement projects; strategic development extension; and evaluation methodology.

Dr. Marilou Lucas, director for Extension, emphasized the goal of delivering the best extension service to the community through skills enhancement on process documentation and training module writing. The training also aims to improve the submitted proposals for approval and funding.

During the opening program, Dr. Nathaniel R. Alibuyog, vice president for Research, Development, and Innovation, emphasized the value of project planning and adaptive strategies leading to substantial outcomes. He thanked the extension providers for their commitment to having transformative projects bringing knowledge, technology, and hope to the community.  He also challenged them to document every step of their projects and communicate with their project team members to be able to fill the gaps and address issues that may arise, integrating their learning and best experiences and implementing impactful extension programs.

The training advances the high-impact extension and outreach programs, one of the 7-point agenda of the university.
