To improve garlic production in the North, MMSU and the Bacarra Zanjera Irrigators Multipurpose Cooperative (BZIMPC) renewed their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) today, September 9 at FEM hall.

The agreement aimed at ensuring a continuous supply of garlic for MMSU, further aligning with the university’s objective to enhance its production of black garlic, freeze-dried Ilocos garlic in powder and other processed garlic products through the university’s Food Innovation Center (FIC).

MMSU OIC President Dr. Prima Fe Franco expressed her gratitude for the renewed commitment stating, “This move will further enhance the production of high-quality garlic products. The partnership will significantly impact our extension programs by refining and improving both the quality and volume of black garlic produced.”

Meanwhile, Mrs. Mency Tolentino, chairperson of BZIMPC, assured the cooperative's commitment to advancing garlic production goals. “We will make sure that the cooperative will have enough supply of garlic for MMSU,” she stated. She was accompanied by Mr. Macario Tolentino, production supervisor; Mr. Jessie Valite, marketing coordinator; and Mrs. Claire Balad, bookkeeper.

Present during the signing ceremony were Dr. Nathaniel Alibuyog, vice president for research, development, and innovation and Dr. Marilou Lucas, director of extension.

The partnership between MMSU and BZIMPC reflects the growing effort between academic institutions and agricultural cooperatives, aiming to achieve mutual goals in the agricultural landscape and benefiting the local community.
