Farmers train to become financially literate

A total of sixty-eight batches of trainings from October 19-30 was completed for the Financial Literacy Program: Pagsasanay para sa mga Magsasaka/Mangingisda in the municipalities of Burgos, Adams, Dumalneg, and Carasi in Ilocos Norte.

The series is a joint venture of the Mariano Marcos State University and the Land Bank of the Philippines and its land Bank Countryside Development Foundation. The program was initiated to reach small local farmers and fishers in the province and help them improve their socio-economic conditions by making them more productive and bankable through access to relevant financial services and opportunities.

From October 19-23, nine barangays of Burgos were reached to include the communities of Bayog, Ablan, Agaga, Buduan, Nagsurot, Paayas, Saoit, Poblacion, and Tanap. On October 27, five barangays of Adams were reached to include Poblacion, Sinadangan, Bucarot, Kadisan, and Malilgligay. On October 28, four barangays of Dumalneg were reached to include Cabaritan, Kalaw, Quibel, and San Isidro. And on October 30, three barangays of Carasi were reached to include Barbaqueso, Virbira , and Angset.

Two topics were primarily shared to the over a thousand participants of the training program: Financial Literacy discussed by selected faculty of the College of Business, economics, and Accountancy (CBEA), and Pamamahala sa Panganib discussed by selected faculty of the College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development (CAFSD). Facilitators of the varied trainings were pooled from the Extension Directorate and the two colleges.

In observance of the health protocols of the province, the training was opted to be conducted in batches with only at most twenty participants in a venue. Facemasks and face shield including the monitoring of temperature were strictly observed during the trainings.
