Livestock Raisers, SOA Graduates, Enrollees, attend training on feeding formulation and livestock production
Written by Administrator on 14 August 2025
To enhance the knowledge and skills of livestock raisers on feed formulation and livestock production, the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) of Solsona, Ilocos Norte, is conducting a two-day training, scheduled for August 13-14, 2025 at the LGU Solsona Function Hall.
Thirty livestock growers from 10 barangays—including Lipay, San Julian, Catangraran, Maan-anteng, Nalasin, Talugtog, Mariquet, Capurictan, Barcelona, and Bagbag—are participating in the training. According to Ms. Liza Domingo, the Agricultural Technologist and Livestock Coordinator, majority of the participants are graduates of the SOA on goat and swine production from 2023-2024, while others are currently enrolled in the ongoing SOA on vegetable production.
Municipal Administrator Antonio P. Ganotisi, representing Mayor Joseph E. De Lara, thanked MMSU for supporting the initiative. He expressed his hope that farmers would apply their learnings to improve their farming practices.
Ms. Kathlyn Samuelseen, a volunteer from the United States of America working on climate change education and adaptation, was also present at the training.
The first day's topics, to be discussed by Dr. Sean R. Vidad from the College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development (CAFSD), will cover suitable feeds for ruminants, feeding practices, concentrate feed formulation, mixing, forage cultivation, and silage making. A hands-on activity will follow the lecture.
The second day will feature a series of lectures from the MMSU College of Veterinary Medicine:
Basic animal husbandry practices with Dr. Arlyn T. Chokowen
Common diseases of ruminants and their clinical signs with Dr. Randy Q. Pacsi
Introduction to ethno veterinary medicine and the uses of common medicinal plants with Dr. Monaliz N. Nagrampa.
The activity forms part of MMSU and LGU-Solsona's sustained partnership in extension delivery.
