With its transformative role in advancing inclusive and sustainable community development, the Extension Directorate of Mariano Marcos State University garnered multiple awards during the 2025 National Extension Conference held at Cavite State University, Indang, Cavite on October 8–9.
Recognized for its extension initiatives, MMSU earned 3rd place in the Outstanding Extension Research Paper category for the study “School-on-the-Air Program and Social Media: A Synergistic Extension Platform for the Promotion of Improved Goat Production Management in Ilocos Norte,” authored by Dr. Sean Vidad and colleagues.
Meanwhile, Dr. Marlowe Aquino, MMSU Extension Director, was named Best Presenter in Sustainable Agriculture for the paper “Sustainable Agriculture through INAFES,” while Prof. Marjorie Garcia, Chief for Socioeconomic, Technopreneurship, and Partnership unit under the National Bioenergy Research and Innovation Center (NBERIC), received the Best Presenter Award in Food System Resilience for the study “Empowering Nipa-based Communities.”
Anchored on the theme “Food, Health, and Nutrition Extension: Implications for Community Transformation and the Economy of the Future,” the two-day conference gathered extension professionals from across the country to share breakthroughs and strengthen the role of extension in national development.
Participants engaged in dynamic sessions on nutrition education, public health initiatives, food systems resilience, economic adaptation, digital transformation, and ethical extension work.
Dr. Marlowe Aquino, MMSU extension director, said the achievements they receive are manifestations of hard work and the university’s continued support for communities, farmers’ groups, and associations. “The Extension Directorate, through the School-on-the-Air Program, will be further intensified with new agri-fishery knowledge, technologies, interventions, and innovations for sustainable agriculture and community development,” he said.
The conference was organized by the Philippine Extension and Advisory Services Network, Inc. (PhilEASNet), the Philippine Association for Extension Program Implementors, Inc. (PAEPI) – CALABARZON, and Cavite State University, in collaboration with the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), DOST-PCAARRD, and DA-Philippine Carabao Center.
