MMSU and LBP Train Farmers and Fisherfolks on Financial Literacy
Written by Administrator on 28 April 2022
To enhance the knowledge and skills of farmers and fisherfolks on financial literacy, the Mariano Marcos State University in partnership with the Landbank of the Philippines, Landbank Countryside Development Foundation Inc. conducted the first batch of training on April 26, 2022.
The training was conducted in two cluster barangays of Vintar, Barangays Mabanbanag and Parparoroc, Vintar, Ilocos Norte. Two hundred farmers from these barangays attended the activity with the assistance of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Vintar.
Topics discussed include financial literacy by Mr. Jonathan Rex Quirino from the College of Business, Econmics, and Accountancy (CBEA) and risk management by Mr. Raymond Rahon of the College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development (CAFSD). A workshop was conducted after the lecture wherein the participants were taught on how to compute for their cash in and cash out for a certain period of cropping season.
With the scheduled trainings to be conducted from April-September this year, it is hoped that a total of 3,130 farmers and fisherfolks will be trained from the cluster barangays covering 6 LGUs in Ilocos Norte. These include the municipalities of Vintar, Pagudpud, Piddig, Nueva Era, Paoay, and Currimao, Ilocos Norte.
To recall, this is now the second phase of the project that started last year with a total of 1,058 farmers trained from various LGUs in Ilocos Norte.
