Vintar farmers trained in MMSU-LBP training

As part of the University’s goal of empowering the community people, more and more farmers of Vintar, Ilocos Norte are capacitated in managing their finances through the Financial Literacy Program: Pagsasanay para sa mga Magsasaka/Mangingisda.

In a series of training conducted this April and May 2022, a thousand farmers of Vintar were capacitated in managing their finances and addressing risks in their farming activities. A total of ten (10) batches of training were conducted, accommodating the 33 barangays of the town.

The training was led by training team from the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) through the Extension Directorate, the College of Business, Economics, and Accountancy (CBEA), and the College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development (CAFSD) which serve as subject matter specialists. Topics discussed in these trainings are Financial Literacy discussed by speakers from CBEA and Risk Management by CAFSD.

Columbia, one of the beneficiary of the program, shared.

This year, the Financial Literacy Program is set to serve about 3,130 locals of Vintar, Pagudpud, Piddig, Nueva Era, Paoay, ken Currimao, Ilocos Norte until September this year. This adds to the more than a thousand farmers from Adams, Burgos, Carasi, and Dumalneg, Ilocos Norte trained in the past years. 

Since 2020, the Financial Literacy Training has been actively rolled out to reach small local farmers in the province improve their budgetary operations through financial literacy and adequate knowledge in managing risks.

The training is conducted by the Mariano Marcos State University in collaboration with the Land Bank of the Philippines and its Land Bank Countryside Development Foundation, and the Local Government Units (LGUs) to reach small local farmers and fishers in the province and help them improve their socio-economic conditions by making them more productive and bankable through access to relevant financial services and opportunities.

It is hoped that after the training, the beneficiaries will improve their financial stability through informed and effective decisions regarding money matters while the national government continues to establish access in various financial services offered by banks such as the LandBank of the Philippines and other local banks.
