To help smallholder farmers improve their productivity and reduce significant loss on weather-related risks and costs in onion production, a training on Jollibee Group Foundation's Weather Information Notification System (WINS) was conducted today, Nov. 19, 2024, at the Municipal Agriculture Office, FITS Center, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte.
The activity was attended by 11 farmer members of the Ayat Ti Pasuquin Farmers and Irrigators, Association, Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte. The training provided them with the necessary knowledge and skills in using the Weather Information Notification System (WINS). More importantly, the farmers were given the chance to become aware and enhance their knowledge on weather forecasts and their strategic applications to their crop production practices.
Mr. Meynard Saclayan, a Training Assistant from MMSU Extension Directorate, served as the Resource Speaker for the training. Also present during the activity were AgriTech Facilitators from Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, Mr. Mark Flor Valdez and Mr. Marcos Palacay.
The training was made possible through the partnership with the Jollibee Group Foundation, the Local Government Unit of Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, and the MMSU Extension Directorate.
To recall, the partnership with Jollibee Group Foundation, LGU Pasuquin, and the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte was started in December of 2023 through the project Agro-enterprise Clustering Approach (AECA) for white onion production and marketing.
Initially, the project provided the farmers with relevant knowledge and skills to improve their production. Most importantly, the beneficiaries were ensured of a ready market for their produce.
