In response to the increasing number of community members requesting for training on oyster mushroom production, the MMSU-Extension Directorate conducted another training on November 9-10, 2023 at the MMSU-UBRC. This is now the third batch of training conducted this year.

Thirty-one members of various groups and organizations attended the activity.  This composed of Jail officers from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Urdaneta Pangasinan and the City of Batac. Partners from the Department of Education-City of Batac and Laoag City including enrollees from the on-going School-on-the-Air (SOA) Program also attended the activity. In addition, barangay officials of Brgy. Quiling Sur and owners of Learning Sites in the City of Batac attended the training.   

Assistant Professor Eugine Ramos, a faculty member of the College of Agriculture, Food, and Sustainable Development (CAFSD) served as speaker to the training.  Topics discussed include the Overview of Mushroom Industry in the Philippines, Oyster Mushroom Production, and Spawn Production.  Dr. Errol John Valdez, a faculty member at the College of Business, Economics, Accountancy (CBEA) discussed the Cost and Return Analysis for Oyster Mushroom Production.   

Hands-on demonstration on the preparation of culture media, spawn production, and inoculation were conducted after the lectures.  Staff from the Research and Extension Directorates facilitated the activity.  

Dr. Dionisio S. Bucao, Director for Research and Officer-In-Charge to the Office of the Vice President for Research, Development, and Innovations, in his message, encourage the participants to apply what they have learned in the training telling them to make use of the many opportunities in agriculture. 

Ms. Bella Gervacio, OIC in-charge and Chief of Training and Continuing Education unit of the Extension Directorate, thanked the participants in  signifying their interest to go into mushroom production (With reports from GCheska Clemente).
